2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

This 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 was purchased new with an extensive factory option package and subsequently converted for camping and recreational use. The van has fewer than 1,000 miles and is finished in Iridium Silver Metallic. Power is provided by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel inline-four High Output Motor rated at 211 horsepower, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system.

The conversion was designed around open interior space and modularity rather than maximizing the number of permanent fixtures. An $18,000 German-made pop-up roof tent provides an elevated sleeping area with access from inside the van, while a Vertical L-track bed-support system has been installed in the rear for a future lower bed. A Bellagio two-person fold-away seat can be deployed for passengers or folded against the side of the van to increase the available floor area.

Additional equipment includes an 8,500-BTU auxiliary air-conditioning system, European-made diesel heater, 400Ah self-heating LiFePO4 battery bank, 3,000-watt pure-sine-wave inverter/charger, refrigerator/freezer, cassette toilet, stainless-steel sink, 14-gallon fresh-water capacity, 7-gallon gray-water capacity, swiveling front seats, and an approximately eight-foot hardwood butcher-block countertop.

The van was originally configured with Mercedes-Benz’s AWD, RV Technical, RV Suspension, Comfort Plus, Premium Plus, Driver Convenience, Exterior Lighting, Parking, and Swivel Seat packages, among other options. Factory equipment includes Distronic adaptive cruise control, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, a 360-degree camera system, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, heated windshield, LED high-performance headlamps, electric sliding door, MBUX infotainment with a 10.25-inch display, and automatic climate control.

Conversion Details

The interior is centered around an approximately eight-foot hardwood butcher-block countertop with storage below. The kitchen includes a stainless-steel deep sink with colander and pull-out faucet, a freezer/refrigerator, 14-gallon fresh-water capacity, and 7-gallon gray-water capacity. The water system was designed for straightforward winterization.

The Bellagio two-person fold-away seat is installed behind the front seats and can be deployed for passengers or folded against the side of the van to increase the available floor area. The seating system is pull-tested, DOT approved, and compatible with child seats.

The driver-side battery enclosure incorporates a cushioned seating surface and two Lagun table mounts. The arrangement allows two occupants to work side-by-side or use the area as a dining space, with additional seating available inside the van.

The front captain’s chairs swivel toward the living area, and a privacy curtain separates the front cabin from the rear compartment.

Multiple 110-volt and 12-volt outlets are installed throughout the interior. Dimmable puck lighting provides general illumination, with additional full-spectrum lighting capability.

Electrical

The electrical system is built around a 400Ah self-heating Lithium Iron Phosphate battery bank. Charging provisions include solar, shore power, and alternator charging.

A 3,000-watt pure-sine-wave inverter/charger with Bluetooth connectivity is installed, along with professionally installed marine-grade wiring.

The auxiliary electrical system supplies the air-conditioning unit and provides capacity for additional appliances and equipment.

Climate

An 8,500-BTU auxiliary air-conditioning system is installed beneath the butcher-block cabinet and operates from the auxiliary electrical system.

Heating is provided by a European-made diesel-fired heater equipped with a high-altitude-rated brushless motor and low-noise fuel pump.

The cabin is insulated with natural Havelock wool and supplemented by a radiant barrier installed behind the insulation.

Sleeping

An $18,000 German-made pop-up roof tent provides an elevated sleeping area with access from inside the van.

A Vertical L-track bed-support system from Flatline has been installed in the rear, providing mounting points for a future lower bed system without requiring modification to the existing conversion.

A Leaf can also be added to the lower cabinet to create a smaller lower sleeping platform.

The modula
arrangement allows the van to be configured for sleeping while retaining substantial open floor space when the additional sleeping system is not in use.
